At the heart of life lie the relationships we have with other people. And of course, with family, co-workers and friends close by and far away at the other side of the world. How one savours these relationships has a huge impact on the happiness both in one’s life and in the lives of the people one cares about. Korok, a little magazine has dredged up the past and looking back, shared some of the best advice from the wise people who have walked this earth.

Relations between some of the most extraordinary men and women have been the topic of this 272-page paperback. The volume is replete with anecdotes and nuggets of information of the relations between Sri Ramkrishna, Girish Chandra Ghosh and Binodini, Rabindranath Tagore and Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumdar, Tagore and Sir Jadunath Sarkar, Gandhiji and Subhas Chandra Bose, Asutosh Mookherjee and Ramandana Chattopadhaya, Debabrata Biswas and Suchitra Mitra, Buddhdeb Bose and Jibanananda Das, Suniti Kumar Chattopadhaya and Sukumar Sen, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Abala Bose and Sister Nivedita, Gyan Chandra Ghosh, Satyen Bose and Meghnad Saha, Pradulla Chandra Roy and Rajshekhar Bose, Upendra Kishor Roy Chowdhury and Jogindanath Sarkar, Sri Aurobindo and Dilip Kumar Roy.

All of them were great personalities and sparks flew when their ways of functioning clashed as between Asutosh Mukherjee and Ramananada Chattoapdhaya and of course between Gandhi and Bose. Sometimes they rose above their interests and appreciated the other person’s point of view.

Occasionally an unlikely friendship developed and remained a lifelong bond despite pulls and pressures which threatened to sever it.

If the breed to which these remarkable men and women have vanished, present day common men as well decision makers can draw valuable lessons from the lives and times of these individuals who live in their deeds.

Kudos to Korok for bringing out a number which educates and enlightens.
