Senior officials of the University added that only a handful of students could not gave the examination and the University authorities will fix a date later for these students to sit for the paper. The scheduled papers of the final semester examination of Arts, Engineering and Science of JU were also conducted on Thursday.

Rabindra Bharati University had deferred their examinations scheduled for Thursday. The Bengali, English, Sanskrit, history, political science and philosophy exams will be held on 13 May and the visual arts test on 4 May.

The CPI-M criticised the state government for conducting examinations on a bandh day. According to Left Front chairman, MrBiman Bose, the state government had interfered with the autonomy of the universities in the state by issuing a "diktat" to them to hold the scheduled examination even on the day of a statewide bandh.

"Though only a few students turned up for the examination, the University authorities remained adamant on their stand and carried out the examination process.

This is unfair," he added. Different teachers organisations, including the West Bengal College University Teachers Association and College University Teachers Association had urged the V-C of CU to reschedule the examination, but University authorities paid no heed to their plea.
