Darjeeling TMC to send draft list of panel names

The Darjeeling district Trinamool Congress will send the draft list of names for the party&’s district party committee, block committees and assembly segment-wise committees to the state party leadership in a day or two for their approval, said the district party president and state tourism minister Gautam Deb on Sunday.

Deb was selected as the president on 30 June. He replaced Ranjan Sarkar but the district committee has not yet been formed. “We will send the draft list of the district committee, block committees and the assembly segment committees to the state party leadership within a day or two, following the approval of which the committees will be announced.” There are three assembly segments in Siliguri subdivision.

Accordingly, three assembly committees will be formed. “There will be one chairman or president for each assembly committee,” said Deb.

“We have emphasised on strengthening the organisation at the booth level. There are around 1,000 booths. We are preparing a database. The process of the formation of the committees will be completed within August,” he added.

Deb, who was earlier district president starting from 15 July 2014, was removed from his post in November 2015, after the party failed to win the Siliguri Municipal Corporation and the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad polls, which was also held in 2015.

He said after the monsoons he will initiate the rally plans for the hills.

“I will also re-launch the campaign to reach out to the people from August. As part of the campaign,I will spend the nights in the houses of the local people and will organise camps at different places,” said  Deb.

Around 200 people including lawyers of Siliguri Bar Association, West Bengal Law Clerks’ Association, West Bengal Freelance Court Typists’ Association, and Stamp Vendors’ Association of Siligui units joined Trinamool Congress at the district party headquarters in Siliguri on Sunday.  Deb handed over the party flags to them.
