JUTA observes one day cease work

The Jadavpur University Teacher&’s Association (JUTA) observed a day&’s cease work and sit-in demonstration on Wednesday at Jadavpur University to press for the long-pending demands of the teachers, including payment of arrears pending for over 10 years, payment of increments to higher degree holders (such as MPhil/PhD as recommended by UGC), payment of Dearness Allowance at par with the Central government institutions and payment of interim relief in view of the formation of the seventh Pay Commission by the Government of India.

“In the meantime, we have received a draft of the university&’s statutes from the chancellor in which many objectionable clauses have been introduced. Wednesday&’s ceasework was also a protest against these,” the members of JUTA informed. “

JUTA has repeatedly written to the minister in charge of higher education regarding these issues and sought an appointment with him. JUTA also organised a signature campaign which was sent to the minister. Despite these attempts, we have received no response,” they elaborated. No classes were held today and around 250 teachers joined the sitin demonstration at Aurobindo Bhavan.
