Party should say why we were suspended: TMC MLAs

Accusing the party leadership of taking arbitrary decisions, suspended Trinamool Congress MLAs Shilbhadra Datta and Shiuli Saha on Tuesday sought to know from them about the reasons behind their suspension.

"The party (TMC) has not informed us why we have been suspended. What kind of anti-party activity have we done? The party should explain why we were suspended. We have done no wrong. We have put in lot of hard work for this party," Dutta said.

TMC had on Monday suspended Datta and Saha considered close to estranged former party general secretary Mukul Roy, for allegedly indulging in anti-party activity.

"I have never made any anti-party statement. Have never taken part in anti-party activity. It is being said that we are suspended in a program, because we shared dais with Mukul Roy. But Roy is still a member of the party. He is still an MP," Dutta said.

Datta and Saha had attended an iftar party here in which Mukul Roy was present.

Saha is an MLA from Haldia and Datta was elected from Barrackpore.

Party secretary-general Partha Chatterjee had on Monday said the disciplinary committee of TMC decided to suspend the two MLAs for anti-party activity, tarnishing the image of the party and gross indiscipline.

The suspension would take effect from Wednesday pending enquiry, he said, adding the two MLAs had committed serious offences and their actions could influence other party men as well.
