Seminar on Governance & Vigilance

A Seminar, ‘Promoting Good Governance ~ Positive Contribution of Vigilance’ was jointly organised by Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway at Eastern Railway Officers’ Club, Belvedere Park, Kolkata today as a part of observance of Vigilance Awarensss Week  2013 commencing from Monday to Saturday.
Mr G C Agarwal, General Manager, Eastern Railway addressing the gathering said that vigilance awareness is essential for ensuring credibility of public governance.
Corruption in any form, not only hampers growth and development of an organisation but also erodes its efficiency and credibility, he added.
Prof Ajoy Kumar Ray, Vice Chancellor, Bengal Engineering & Science University, Shibpur, said that to combat corruption, it is essential to inculcate in a person a sense of humanity, honesty and firmness.
For a better society, students should be properly guided with the knowledge of what is good.  Mr Ravindra Kumar, eminent journalist and Editor-in-Chief, The Statesman, said that Indian Railways link all Indians from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Kohima to Kutch and helps in promoting national integration, cultural uplift and social feeling among  people from various states and parts of the country. If the corruption is curbed, the quality of democracy will be better and so, from the very beginning ethics should be taught and practiced in daily life, he added. A bulletin entitled Maryada was released by the guests.
Shri U. K. Bal, Sr. Deputy General Manager, Eastern Railway and Smt. P. Lahiri, Sr. Deputy General Manager, South Eastern Railway also spoke on the occasion. Shri B. K. Patel, Addl. General Manager, Eastern Railway, Shri P. Sahai, Addl. General Manager, South Eastern Railway and other Principal Heads of Departments of Eastern and South Eastern Railways were present on the occasion.
