The Bidhannagar Municipality has decided to start the construction of a multi-storey building for the slum dwellers under the Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme, by January next year.
The officials today initiated the second phase of the survey and listed 500 families, living in slums, who are to be relocated in flats of these multi-storey buildings to be built under the (BSUP) scheme.  Senior officials in the Bidhannagar municipality said that around 21 multi-storey buildings are proposed to be constructed, each constituting of nearly 16 flats.
The Chairman-in-council, Mr Devashish Jana said: “We have already  received funds under the BSUP scheme from the Union Ministry of Urban Development  but the project was on halt. The first phase of the survey process is already done. If we fail to start the construction work by January next year, the fund will relapse to the central government’s account.”
The delay in the implementation of the BSUP project has made it a tedious task for the Bidhannagar Municipality, who has now geared up to complete the survey process within a week.
A detailed plan for land allocation will be determined in a meeting.
