Theatre festival in Behrampore

General election campaigning gaining momentum and clusters of theatres on board thanks to a theatre festival, Behrampore, the heritage township in Murshidabad district, is gearing up to greet the spirit of spring in a befitting manner.
A 14 day-long theatre festival that would begin on 18 March is set to unfold a series of dramas at Rabindrasadan. It is learnt that Jhuna Chowdhury, the secretary of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, would inaugurate the festival and the first play to be staged is  Abu Hossain, one of Badal Sarkar, by the trainees of Ritwik, a Behrampore-based troupe that runs National School of Dramas ~ recognised theatre centre. The following shows by Ritwik include Pinkybuli produced by Sayak, Krishnapurer Rupkatha by Naandipat, Gorai Galod (a play based on a work by Rabindranath Tagore) produced by Kalayani Natya Charcha Kendra, Kinu Kaharer Theatre, a
Dinhata Pragati Natya Sangstha production and many others. 
On 25 March, Loknatyadal, the troupe from Bangladesh, will present Sonai Madhab, directed by Eugene Gomes.
The festival jointly organised by Ritwik and Rangashram is scheduled to stage six more plays ~ Golokdham Rahasya of Satyajit Ray, Ranirghater Brittanto, Rajar Khoje, Aadim, Nilranger Ghora and Caliguli  ~ all by Rangashram. The roundup would be held on 31 March, informed Sandip Bhattacharya, a director trained from NSD. A number of theatre personalities will be awarded.
