Malda, 12 March
Allegation of violating model code of conduct (MCC) as laid down by Election Commission of India (ECI) has been slapped on Trinamul Congress candidate from Malda north Lok Sabha (LS) constituency, Soumitra Roy.
Left Front (LF) has also charged Malda south Trinamul candidate Moajjem Hossain too on the same ground.
Written complaints against both Trinamul candidates were lodged with the district election officer.
District LF chairman, Jiban Maitra said Mr Roy along with other Trinamul supporters had taken out a rally accompanied by loud hailers blaring out music in Harischandrapur on Tuesday in clear violation of the poll code.
Convener, Harischandrapur II block LF,  Swapan Mandal said it was violation of the embargo on using microphones with the Higher Secondary examination continuing.
Block development officer, Biplab Roy assured to look into the complaint lodged by Left Front.
Harischandrapur II block Trinamul president, Bikash Banerjee, however, rubbished the allegation, saying, some members of a local club might have used the microphone in a fit of enthusiasm out of sheer ignorance of the poll code. "My party is in no way involved,” he said.
Soumitra Roy said, “ I have no idea about who played the microphone. I personally have not violated the MCC or the government notifications. I wonder why such allegations are being raised against me. This smacks of conspiracy."
District magistrate who is also the returning officer of both the constituencies, Sharad Dwivedi said, “We have received some complaints of MCC       violation. We would speak to the candidates regarding them. After obtaining their version, administration would take action if necessary.”
