Two arrested in Cossipore gangrape case

Police arrested two persons in connection with the alleged gangrape of a nursing home staff who was abducted and drugged on Sunday from New Town.
Police arrested Pintu Prasad (30) and Ravi Kumar Shaw (28) last night. Pintu was arrested from Kolkata station in Chitpore when he was about to catch the Haldibari Express. Police said that he was going to Siliguri to stay at his relative’s place. Ravi was arrested form Malpanchghara in Howrah.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim there was a third person involved in the crime. Both of the accused fled from scene after the incident. The day after the victim lodged a complaint with the Cossipore police station, police searched the crime spot and seized some vitalmaterial from the area.
A senior officer said that the search operation helped to nab the accused.
On Sunday night, the victim who worked in a nursing home in New Town told police that she was allegedly raped by three persons and she was taken to a red light area of the city. According to the complaint lodged by the victim, around 11 a. m. on Sunday she took a shuttle car along with a co-passenger to go to Bidhannagar station. Later, she lost consciousness inside the car after a man placed his hand on her back. In the evening  she came back to her senses and found herself in a red light area. She managed to escape from that place and took a taxi to Cossipore police station where she lodged a complaint. Subsequently, police started an investigation and arrested the accused. A senior officer said that they found that the victim was known to the accused. The accused were produced before a city court and remanded in police custody till 9 November.
