STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE
New Delhi, 30 September
A day after two persons were gunned down in Gokalpuri area of north-east district, police have grilled half a dozen suspects.
According to police, 28-year-old Tabrez, who lived in Jafrabad area, was probably targeted by the assailants due to personal enmity while the second deceased, identified as Shanu, was driving his multi-utility vehicle (MUV) when he was attacked.
Police said that Tabrez and two of his associates had been targeted while eating kebabs from a road side eatery late on Sunday evening. The police said four to five shots were fired at the group which claimed the life of Tabrez and left his two associates severely injured.
"A construction worker, identified as Shoaib, who was also eating something, sustained injuries," said the police.  As the assailants including the three armed men on a motorcycle fled the scene, they had encountered a Mahindra Xylo MUV which, due to its sheer size, had blocked the assailants’ way.
Police said that initial enquiry has revealed that the assailants had entered into a heated scuffle with Shanu, before opening fire at him. Later, they fled the spot.
Police rushed Tabrez and Shoaib to GTB hospital, where the former was declared brought dead while Shoaib is undergoing treatment.  Police said that they have questioned Tabrez&’s family, friends and colleagues about any enmity that he nursed with anyone near his residence where he operated a small property dealership business.
Police said arrests are likely in the coming days.
