Gupta urges LG to sort out govt-bureaucracy tussle

The leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has urged the Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung, to call an emergency Cabinet meeting to end the tussle between the Delhi government and its senior officers.

Gupta said the LG should instruct the Delhi Chief Minister as well as all ministers to work according to the procedures laid down in the Constitution. They must stop ordering officials to violate Constitutional provisions while adhering to the government&’s directives, he added.

Gupta said in a bid to cause a standoff with the Centre and the LG, the Delhi government is resorting to harassing government officials for doing their duty. He alleged that a few days ago, the AAP government insisted that officials of the Delhi law department complete all formalities pertaining to hike in circle rates without the LG&’s nod and make a recommendation directly to the Delhi government.

Gupta said when the Assistant Legal Advisor in the Law Department made a file noting stating that the permission of the LG is required, the government removed him.

The BJ P leader alleged that Law Minister Kapil Mishra summoned all officials of the Law Department and warned them that if they disregard the orders of the government or talk of sending files to the LG&’s office, they will meet the same fate as the Assistant Legal Advisor.
