Motorists obstructing e-rickshaws’ movement to be penalised

A penalty of Rs.2,000 will now be imposed on motorists obstructing the movement of e-rickshaws and bicycles in Non-Motorised Vehicle (NMV) lanes, including cycle tracks, in the Capital.

As per a notification by the AAP government, Assistant SubInspector and above rank officers of Delhi Police and Head Constables of Transport Department will have the power to penalise motorists causing obstruction in NMV lanes.

A senior government official said parking and other types of obstructions like encroachment on NMV lanes will now come under violation of rules.

"There will now be a fine of Rs.2,000 on those obstructing movement of e-rickshaws and other nonmotorised vehicles in the form of parking or encroachment in NMV lanes," he said.

As per a rough estimate, NMV lanes are at present spread over 30 KM of roads, but most of these are either used for parking or encroached by locals.

"NMV lanes will be marked on roads so that motorists do not obstruct plying of cycles and e-rickshaws in such lanes," the official added.
