Restore Thana-level committees: DCW

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Thursday met the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju to discuss the increasing cases of child rapes in Delhi and the overall issue of women&’s safety in the city. 

Maliwal briefed Rijiju on the absolute importance of the Thana Level Committees in Delhi for women&’s safety and appealed to him to help ensure the reconstitution of the same in Delhi which has recently been scrapped by the Lt Governor (LG) of Delhi.

Maliwal also apprised him about the need to have a High-Level Committee in Delhi on the issue of women&’s safety to ensure close cooperation between the Central Government, State Government, Delhi Police and the Delhi Commission for Women.

In addition, she raised with Rijiju, the need to notify the revised Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme 2015 in Delhi. 

The notification of LG on the revised Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme has been pending since six months.

The notification if passed, will provide compensation to rape victims up to Rs 7-12 lakhs. 

The meeting was very positive. The Minister of State for Home Affairs deeply appreciated the suggestions of the Delhi Commission for Women and assured that he would work towards these suggestions and assured cooperation.
