SFI slams DU”s admission proposal

The Students Federation of India (SFI) organised a protest demonstration at the Arts Faculty in Delhi University’s north campus against the likelihood of admission forms going fully online for academic session 2016-17.

The protest was led by SFI Delhi state president Prashant Mukherjee and secretary Sunand, who were joined by several party members and students.

"The number of applicants for DU’s undergraduate seats keeps on increasing every year and limiting the admission process to online forms will restrict access to a significant section of students coming from the resettlement colonies, JJ clusters and working class backgrounds who have limited access to Internet facilities," said Prashant.

The SFI also emphasised that making the admission process online will be a setback to the varsity culture.

"The interaction which students had with the students organisations during the admission process formed an integral part of their initiation into university life and was crucial in solving many of the queries related to the courses and colleges," said Sunand.

Later, a delegation met the Dean of Students’ Welfare to apprise him of their concerns.

The SFI demanded that offline admission forms must be part of the admission policy along with the online component. It said otherwise the administration must be prepared for protests from the students.
