SHO held for abetting suicide

A station house officer (SHO) of Delhi Police was arrested after a 25- year-old woman committed suicide leaving behind a complaint against the officer, accusing him of torture and harassment, police said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Inspector Dinesh Kumar, SHO Vijay Vihar police station. The deceased lived in Sultanpuri area. 

According to police, information was received on Friday at around 3pm that a woman aged around 25 years was found in unconscious condition outside Tis Hazari Court Complex. She was taken to hospital, where she died during treatment.

Sources told The Statesman that on April 29 the woman came near the gate number 1A of Tis Hazari court and after some time she fell on the road. 

"She had eaten sulphas one hour back before coming near court," sources said. 

When a senior official was asked about reason why she was near the court police stated that the things are under investigation. 

"A suicide note and a five-page complaint against Inspector Dinesh Kumar, SHO of Vijay Vihar Police Station leveling serious allegations of torture and harassment were found with the deceased," police said. 

Inspector Dinesh Kumar was examined and prima facie he was found at fault during preliminary investigation. Police have also come across details that one of the women known person an alleged bad character in Vijay Vihar area identified as Ramniwas was allegedly thrashed by the SHO at the police station recently, following which he had to be admitted in hospital. 

"We are verifying these facts after the investigation we will come out with the results," police said. 

The woman died after she consumed some poisonous substance and her allegations of torture and harassment against the officer are mental and physical in nature. 

The SHO is being interrogated, a senior police official said. Sources further claimed that following the instruction of a high rank officer, Kumar was detained for questioning at Sabzi Mandi Police Station on Friday night and arrested this morning. 

Police further claimed that a case under section 306 IPC has been registered in Police Station Subzi Mandi and Inspector Dinesh Kumar has been arrested. He has been suspended. Further investigations are on.
