‘Centre’s duty to protect Kashmiris’

Reaching out to the people of the Kashmir which continues to reel under curfew and restrictions for 79h day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the people of the valley wanted peace and development as he assured them of protection.

“Today, I want to especially speak to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Gradually, the people of Kashmir have started identifying the anti-national elements and they want the schools and colleges to reopen as soon as possible,” Modi said in his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

“The onus of protecting the Kashmiri people lies with the government of India,” he added.

“Peace, unity and harmony are needed not only to our growth and development but to solve our problems as well,” he said further.

The prime minister also spoke on the Sep 18 Uri terror attack in Kashmir that left 18 soldiers dead.

“There is lot of anger in the country over Uri attack,” said Modi adding that the people of India were proud of the Indian Army.

“We have full confidence in Indian Army and are proud of them,” said PM adding that the army doesn’t believe in talking but doing.
