Unidentified persons set ablaze the memorial of founder-leader of the communist movement in Kerala, P Krishna Pillai, in Alappzha district in the wee-hours today.
Miscreants had also defaced Krishna Pillai&’s bust erected in the courtyard. Pillai, founder-secretary of the Communist Party in Kerala when it was formed in 1937, died of snake bite on 19 August, 1948, while living underground in a thatched hut at Muhamma, which was later turned into a memorial.

The CPI-M and CPI also jointly issued a call for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Alappuzha district on Friday to protest against the attack.
