CPI on Monday termed the Centre’s decision not to re-promulgate the land acquisition ordinance as a "shameful confession" of it being anti-farmer and asked the government whether it would also withdraw a bill suggesting changes to the 2013 UPA law.
The BJP-led NDA Government’s bill proposing amendments to UPA’s Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation Act is being studied by 30-member Joint Committee of Parliament (JCP).
"It is a mockery. It is a shameful confession that what they were trying to do (until now) was anti-farmer," CPI national secretary D Raja told PTI.

The Rajya Sabha member also challenged Centre that if at all the Government is "honest", then it must declare withdrawal of changes proposed to the original act.
Facing stiff resistance on the Land Acquisition Bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday announced that the government will not re-promulgate the Ordinance which expired on Monday and declared readiness to accept any suggestion to benefit the farmers in the pending bill on it.
Apparently referring to political opponents, Modi had said lot of misapprehensions had been created over the bill and fear was instilled among farmers, even though states had suggested amendments to the Act of 2013 for the benefit of villages and villagers.
