My presence helps BJP get more votes: Parrikar

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said that he is only like an icing on the cake when it comes to cornering votes during elections.
Speaking at a poll rally in Pernem assembly constituency, located 35 km from Panaji, Parrikar said that it is the party cadre and the enthusiasm of the public at large that holds good for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
“Some will ask why does everyone abuse Parrikar? It’s natural. They feel, that when I come here, the BJP will get a few votes more. BJP votes increase because of its workers. Maybe I act like an icing on the cake, which improves it, makes it sweeter,” said the former Goa Chief Minister.
“But the real strength (of the BJP) is its workers and the enthusiasm of the people,” Parrikar added.
Opposition parties in the state have been critical of Parrikar’s regular visits to Goa and have accused him of not doing justice to the Defence Ministry brief given to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
