New home secy
NEW DELHI, 30 JUNE: Senior IAS officer Anil Goswami today took charge as the new Union Home Secretary. The 58-year-old Mr Goswami, a 1978 batch IAS officer hailing from Jammu, will have a two-year tenure. He took over from incumbent R K Singh, who retired today. Mr Goswami will have a full plate, with the country gearing up for the general elections scheduled early next year. More urgently, he will be overseeing the massive relief and rescue operations in calamity-hit Uttarakhand. pti

NEW DELHI, 30 JUNE: Air Marshal Arup Raha will take over as Vice Chief of Air Staff succeeding Air Marshal D C Kumaria, who retired today. CHENNAI, 30 JUNE: India’s first dedicated navigation satellite IRNSS-1A will be launched on board PSLV-C22 around midnight tomorrow from Sriharikota with the mission countdown progressing smoothly.
