Centre keen on developing Food Processing Industry in NE

The Centre is keen on developing Food Processing Industries in the North East, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said on Friday.

Based primarily on agriculture, the region can achieve growth through agriculture related industries as abundant resources were available for growth, the minister said in her message read out in absentia at the inaugural function of a conference on "Mainstreaming the North East Region" here.

Food Processing Industries is an integral part of the ‘Make in India’ campaign, the minister said.

The goal of growth can be achieved through agriculture dependent processing industries, she said, adding that these industries can be established with low capital.

Infrastructure and Food Processing Industries should be developed with the support of local technologies so that local people get employment while business and trade will grow enhancing the income of the people, she said.

The MoS also requested the experts and industry players attending the conference to discuss and deliberate on opportunities and possibilities for establishing new industries in North East Region so that this region can develop.

During the conference, experts and industry players from different parts of the country will deliberate on problems faced by the region towards progress and development.
