Chennai Test: Karun Nair’s triple-ton drives India to record total

Alongside the massive triple-century by Karun Nair, his enormous 181-run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin (67) led India to the driver’s seat as they declared their innings for the record highest Test score of 759/7, a lead of 282 runs, at the fourth day of the fifth Test on Monday.
Nair was the maiden Indian batsman to convert his debut century into a triple ton and the second Indian to score 300-plus after Virender Sehwag, who reached the mark twice in his career.
The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai witnessed the very best of the 25-year-old batsman, who smashed unbeaten 303 runs with 32 fours and four sixes. 
With this, Nair became the top-scoring Indian batsman at No.5 position. Earlier MS Dhoni had scored 224 runs while batting at No.5 against Australia at Chennai in 2003.
On Sunday, KL Rahul scored remarkable 199 runs and established 161-run partnership with Nair for the fourth-wicket partnership. Nair, who was at 71* at stumps on Day 3, picked the pulse right from where Rahul left on Sunday.
Vijay, who came to bat at No.6, failed to impress much at new spot he lost his wicket for 29 runs. However, Jadeja stood tall alongside almighty Nair, scoring causative 51 runs.
At stumps on Day 4, England were at 12 runs without any loss of wicket, with skipper Alastair Cook (3*) and Keaton Jennings (9*) trailing India by 270 runs.
