India lose to Japan in Women’s U18 Asia Cup semis

India’s women junior hockey team lost 3-5 to Japan in a shootout at the 4th Women's U18 Asia Cup semi-final match in Thailand on Wednesday.

Starting the game on an aggressive note, Lalremsiami scored through a reverse-flick in the fifth minute to give India a 1-0 lead, which remained intact throughout the first-half.

Japan came resilient to score in the second-half and Tamura Ayana eventually hit an equaliser in the 62nd minute to drive the game into a shootout.

In the shootout, the first two attempts by both the sides resulted in goals, while both missed scoring on the third attempt.

India failed to score a goal thereafter, however, Japan's final shooter found the back of the net to edge past the Indian eves.

India will now play in the Bronze Medal match on Thursday.
