Courtesy a rapid half-century by opener Parthiv Patel, India on Tuesday registered an impressive eight-wicket win over England to lead the five-match Test series 2-0.
The left-handed batsman from Gujarat scored a quick 67 off 54 balls as his partners Cheteshwar Pujara (25 runs) and Murali Vijay (0) failed to make a mark with the bat.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on six runs at the other end as Patel hit a boundary to win the match. India finished at 104/2.
In the first innings, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had a lot to celebrate as he hit his best ever knock of 90 runs in a Test match and also managed to scalp a total of four wickets from both the innings. The all-rounder was adjudged the man of the match.
Besides Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin was the knight in shining armour for India as he scored crucial 72 runs and also took three wickets on Monday.
India began their first innings on an aggressive note with bowlers dominating the English batting and the team crumbling for 283 runs.
Wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow (89), was the only batsman who managed to put up a fight against the Indian pace attack led by Mohammed Shami (3/63).
England appeared faltering miserably in the second innings as Indian spinners spread magic on turf to wrap it up for 236. Ashwin (3/81) led the attack with support of Jadeja (2/62) and Jayant (2/21), while pacer Shami claimed two wickets to join the carnival.
