Mumbai Test Day 1: Debutant Jennings lights up Wankhede

Debutant Keaton Jennings scored a masterly century to put England in control at 196/2, leaving India with a lot of work to do if they are to get back in the fourth Test after lunch on the first day.
Alastair Cook (46) was the first wicket to fall, getting stumped by Parthiv Patel off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling, and despite Joe Root not lasting long, Jennings remained unflappable at the crease.
He had some initial jitters, even surviving a review by India, but once the southpaw got into his thirties, he never once looked back. Remarkable for a player who wouldn’t have been playing and Haseeb Hameed not fractured his finger in the third Test.
With a strike-rate of over 52, the tall South-Africa born batsman kept the runs flowing with some sensible batting and remains unbeaten on 103. With 12 boundaries to his name already, it is safe to say it has been a great debut for the 24-year-old Jennings.
Moeen Ali is not out on 25 and with a decent batting reserve, England could put up a big total by the end of the day’s play.
