PV Sindhu’s Olympic silver marks a glorious year for badminton
It turned out to be a watershed year for Sindhu, who reached the upper echelons of world badminton.
India&’s shuttler PV Sindhu on Friday created history by winning the first ever silver medal by an Indian player in badminton at Olympics.
Although, the 21-year-old lost to Spain&’s Carolina Marin 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 in the women&’s singles final, who is also the world No.1.
Not only the first woman, Sindhu became the first Indian to win an Olympic silver in badminton.

Earlier, she had beaten Japan&’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10 in the semi-finals on Thursday to confirm at least a silver medal.
Before the semifinal clash, Double World Championship bronze medalist had dismissed two higher-ranked opponents — Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying and World No. 2 Wang Yihan of China in the pre-quarter-final and the quarter-final respectively.
Before this in head-to- head encounters, Carolina Marin had won four games out of seven while Sindhu had registered victories in three matches.
