Thimmaiah nets twice as India beats Malaysia 4-2

After suffering a close-defeat to the hosts Australia on Wednesday, India returned to winning ways on Thursday as they routed Malaysia 4-2 in the second match of the 4 Nations Invitational Tournament at Melbourne.
Indian forward Nikkin Thimmaiah struck a double, alongside the goals from Akashdeep Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh, to celebrate India’s comprehensive victory at the tournament.
India was resilient since the start, though they failed to score in the first quarter. Eventually in the second quarter, Thimmaiah broke the deadlocks, scoring in the 24th minute and the half-time concluded with 1-0 in favour of the Indians.
Malaysia’s Faizal Saari struck an equaliser in the 39th minute, through a brilliant penalty corner. However, India’s star drag-flicker Rupinder responded in the very next minute, scoring a PC goal in the 40th minute. India again had a lead as the third quarter concluded.
In the final quarter, Shahril Saabah of Malaysia converted a PC into goal in the 47th minute to level the score. Thimmaiah scored his second goal in the 55th minute to give India an upperhand over Malaysia. Following it, young Indian striker Akashdeep found the back of the net through a reverse hit in the 56th minute.
India is next scheduled to play New Zealand in the last group stage match on Saturday.
