Progressive education

The third annual joint conference on Progressive Educational Practices was held at the Vidya Mandir Auditorium recently. It focused on education and technology, changing the learning landscape, the importance of technology-blended learning and the preparedness of educators.

The participating schools were Birla High, Sushila Birla Girls’and Shri Shikshayatan. Schools should make a robust plan to integrate technology. It should therefore concentrate on the infrastructure depending on the curriculum and necessity and not let the vendors decide which devices to use. With the revolution in information, birth of the Internet and development of the same there has been the growth of the digital native. Students were therefore digital natives whereas the older generations of teachers were digital immigrants.

“The necessity of reaching out to students beyond the classroom which may be done by creating secret groups on Facebook, posting assignments on Whatsapp and Google groups. Each group can serve as a platform for discussion and allow the teacher to post assignments, lesson plans or objectives and pictures of class activities,” said Leslie D’Gama, learning and development consultant.
