Alone in a strange land

“If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine, it is lethal.” –Paulo Coehlo

We humans are called social animals for a reason. We socialise. We talk, we express, we bond, we get attached and we do all of this to survive and make memories. A good collection of memories in the end is all a human is left with. All kinds of memories are made and plenty of stories to tell.
Life is like a single edition book. As you flip the pages you proceed. People who come in our lives are the characters of this book. The more the memories, more is the number of pages and the thicker is the book.
With time, humans became comfortable being on their own.  The word ‘independent’ came into being. Man learnt to do things on his own. Some learnt to live alone and even enjoy it. Some are not quite sure if they could live alone. Some fear to live alone or not.
Some travel alone to take a break and there are many who keep jet-setting alone on work, while some wonder how can someone travel alone? How can it be a fun time if it is without friends or family?
There are so many questions and finally here are the answers to them.
What?
A trip where you are on your own with a backpack is called a Solo trip. With all the things you need, you head to a destination.
Where?
A place you have been dreaming to travel to or just impromptu.
When?
When you feel bored of your monotonous life
If you think routine is comfortable
Why?
To push your limits and come out stronger and wiser
To know yourself, to find the real you and spend time with yourself
To see the world the way it is, without prejudice or opinions
Because you owe it to yourself
Who?
You! By yourself and on your own.
How?
With fear and anxiety in your heart while over thinking about all the things that can go wrong, picture yourself free from all the tensions and responsibilities. Imagine the life you always wanted to live.
Picture your Utopian world. Play a movie in your mind where you are the hero, the director and let spontaneity be the story writer.
Now imagine yourself sitting on a big rock at the river bank. Sun hiding behind the clouds, water flowing happily oblivious to what is going to happen next. Dip your toes in the cold water, let the wind play with your hair and close your eyes to breath in that moment. Make a memory for life.
Or picture yourself on a mountain peak, feel victorious. You took over the mountain. You can take over all your stress and worries the same way. Step by step, consistently.
“To awaken alone in a strange town is one of the pleasantest sensations in the world.” – Freya Stark
When you go for a solo trip, every moment is precious. It is unique. Like never before. You meet people, you learn things, you make friends, you create stories and most importantly you meet you.
So, go for a solo trip, fall in love with yourself and get rid of all the inhibitions you have. The outcome of a solo trip is the version of you that was never known to anybody, not even you.
“Travel, for me, is a little bit like being in love because suddenly all your senses are at the setting marked ON” –Pico Iyer
