World Organ Donation Day celebrated at KIMS

World Organ Donation or Organ Transplantation Day was observed at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) andPradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital with a awareness rally and a workshop. Prof. Dr. S. C. Dash, Director, KIMS; Dr. Panchanan Sahoo, Head, Cardiology Department of KIMS and Panchanan Parida, KIMS joined the rally.

A Continuous Medical Education (CME) was also held in KIMS. Inaugurating the CME Niranjan Pujari, Speaker, Odisha Legislative Assembly said, in eighties transplantation of human and animal organs was initiated, but it was not success. But now organ transplantation is successfully conducted at several hospitals. There are certain legal requirements which most people are unaware of, he observed. Dr. S. C. Dash said, organ transplantation is most spectacular achievement in the medical sciences. Today we are successful in heart, liver and kidney transplantation.

By which an affected person can live from 10 to 30 years. Every year 5 lakh people die in road accidents. People should come out to donate organ of such kind of organ of people who have no possibility of life after accident. One can donate body of a dead person those bodies are suitable for medical research.
