Bidhannagar people opt for solar power

For the first time, the residents of a locality in Bidhannagar has come together to install solar panels in the rooftop of their community centre.

The 5 KV solar panel installed on the roof top of the AE block community centre would ensure that the residents of the block will not have to pay any electricity bills separately for the centre.

Present at the occasion was Sovan Deb Chatterjee, MLA and Sujit Bose, deputy mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation among other dignitaries.

Hailing the initiative of the residents, the minister said, “It is a very good that the residents of this block are conscious about the need to shift to alternate sources of energy.”

“The state government had embarked upon several environment friendly projects such as Alo Shree, to illuminate all government office buildings with solar power. Now we want more and more people to come forward and embrace these alternate sources of energy,” he added. MLA Sujit Bose is said to have provided a considerable sum of money for the installation of the panel from his local area development fund.

“We understand the need to make people aware of these effective alternate sources of energy. This plan was scheduled before the election and I am happy that this project could be completed in time,” Bose said.
