Fire fighters beaten up for arriving late

An angry mob  pelted fire fighters with stones at Jyotinagar in Siliguri, leaving two of them injured this evening.
The fire fighters had reached the area to douse a fire that engulfed a house when the locals said they arrived too late.   Two fire engines were also damaged.  The fire brigade office said it had been informed of the fire around 7.15 p.m.and that they immediately sent two engines to the site. It said the fire tenders had got stuck in a traffic snarl.
On reaching the spot, the fire fighters found themselves surrounded by a mob of over 1000  people.  Exasperated with their delayed arrival, they started throwing stones at them. 
A sub-officer, Mr Rajib Kundu, was seriously injured when the irate mob attacked him.  The fire office said it contacted the police, but in vain.   Police arrived at the spot after the mob poured their fury on the staff , it said. The fire brigade&’s controlling officer said that though their aim is to help the people in need, “The people turn violent and attack us  for no fault of ours.”
