Madan Mitra’s judicial custody extended

Madan Mitra&’s counsel filed a bail petition before the Alipore District and Sessions Court on Monday. The CBI prayed for time as their senior counsel was unavailable and the investigating officer (IO) is not keeping well. Madan Mitra on Monday told reporters at the Alipore court during his production, “I have been in custody for the last 20 months. The last two years I have spent Durga Puja in custody. This time I want to spend the Puja outside with my grandchild and my family. I request the CBI to submit all the documents at one time.

Till date, the CBI has not been able to frame any charge against me.” The way this government has cracked its whip on the syndicate raj, no other government has had this courage ever, he said. “The chief minister has repeatedly warned the corrupt leaders associated with the syndicate raj to pull up their socks, otherwise they will be thrown out of the party. I request Sonia ji to keep Adhir and Mannan in their party for some more time and I request our CM Mamata Banerjee not to take Mannan and Adhir in the party,” he added.

ACJM Abhijit Ghosh remanded Madan Mitra in judicial custody till 5 September.Madan Mitra&’s counsel placed two petitions that he be provided necessary medical assistance and granted the stature of a division one prisoner. Mr Mitra was arrested in December 2014 for his alleged involvement in the multicrore Saradha scam.The CBI has named him in one of the supplementary charge sheets filed in the case. On 31 October, 11 months after his arrest, Mr Mitra was granted bail by a lower court. But again on 19 November 2015, the Division Bench of Calcutta High Court cancelled the bail given by the lower court.
