Meanwhile the CPI-ML organised a ‘Singur cholo’ rally today in support of the demands of the affected farmers. The rally was organised from Kamarkundu railway station to Singur. The rally was organised to demand appropriate compensation and return of land to all the affected farmers, modified and made suitable for agriculture. Dipankar Bhattacharya, the all India general secretary of CPI (ML) Liberation, said, any move by the TMC government to set up industry on the fertile agricultural land which was forcefully taken away by the previous government will be strongly protested by the party. The TMC government must abide by the verdict of the apex court and hand over the physical possession of land to every affected farmer. The land should be modified and made suitable for agriculture so that the affected farmers can immediately plant crops.  Bhattacharya said, the unwilling farmers must be paid 12 per cent interest on their rightful compensation. He said the farming labourers and the “borgadhars”should not be overlooked but be equally compensated.

Bhattacharya demanded severe punishment for the police officials who crossed all limits of humanity and thrashed the farmers who had protested against the forcefully acquisition of their fertile land during the Singur movement.  Bhattacharya also demanded the immediate arrest of the killers of Tapashi Mallick, Raj Kumar Bhul and others who lost their lives during the movement.
