Tight security for Independence Day

Strict security arrangements have been made by the city police to prevent any untoward incident on Independence Day. Senior police officials said, over two thousand personnel will be deployed to keep a hawks eye at strategic locations in the city.

For the I-day parade, six police assistance booths, three Quick Response Teams (ORT), ten ambulances, six watchtowers, eleven Radio Flying Squads will be stationed at Red Road hours before the parade is scheduled to begin around 10 am.

Drones would also be pressed into service. "A security blanket has been thrown across the city and vehicles entering the city will be scanned from Sunday evening. Strict instructions have been given to quiz anybody even on minor suspicion. The area surrounding Red Road will be thoroughly scanned by bomb disposal squad," said a senior police officer.

He added that guest houses and hotels in the city have been asked to check the documents of guests carefully before allotting rooms. Any callousness on the part of the owners will not be tolerated," added the official. The chief minister would felicitate ten IPS officers for "outstanding and commendable service." Sources said that there would be no tableaux on the occasion unlike other years.

Beneficiaries of schemes such as Kanyashree, Khadya Sathi, Sabuj Sathi will join the parade.
