TMC leaders thrash villagers at government event

Two villagers while attending an event organised by the district administration were assaulted by Trinamool Congress leaders in the presence of senior district officials and the Sabhadhipati of Burdwan Zilla Parishad.

The Sabhadhipati, Debu Tudu, condemned the assault and said “Such highhandedness was never expected and I felt very bad. I have asked the leaders to behave properly.”

The ‘Administration at your doorstep’ programme was organised at Chua village in Kanksa block on Thursday evening. Senior officials like the ADM (General), the SDM, Durgapur and the Sabhadhipati, as well as the BDO, Kanksa were present. Some Trinamool Congress leaders like Debdas Bakshi who is also an elected zilla parishad member, the sahasabhapati of Kanksa Panchayat Samiti,  Chinmoy Mondal were also on the dais, as was the OC, Kanksa Police Station.

Three villagers,  Prionath Mukherjee,  Parimal Mondal and  Tejendranath Mondal, from Kuldiha village also were present at the meeting. According to their complaint lodged with the SDM, Durgapur on Friday “The leaders assaulted us physically and forced us to leave the meeting place.” Prionath said “We had gone to the meeting place as senior officials had come. We went there to raise the issue of illegal land grab by some Trinamool Congress leaders and their associates. The leaders who were on the podium with the government officials got down and attacked us.” He added: “We were helpless and we were driven out of the premises.”

They alleged that  Bakshi and another Trinamool leader, Inal Ghosal, slapped them repeatedly.

The SDM, Sankha Santra described the incident as ‘unfortunate’ and told reporters: “It was very unpleasant. We have received the complaint and an inquiry will be conducted accordingly.”

The Panchayat Samiti&’s Saha sabhapati, Chinmoy Mondal said: “It has a very bad incident and we shall take up the issue soon.”
