Fun with grammar

Publishing House Orient Blackswan launched a new series of student-friendly grammar books entitled ‘Grammar Land’ on November 26. The one-day event included a presentation highlighting the various unique features of the books as well as a special workshop for the teachers.
The ‘Grammar Land’ series is aimed at children from classes I-VIII, and includes ‘Do it Yourself’ exercises to facilitate teamwork among students, revision exercises to cater to all board-exam patterns as well as lesson plans to aid the teachers.
The books not only have a comprehensive coverage of grammar topics but also specific writing exercises to improve skills and creativity. To make learning easier and more technology-focused, the books also come with links to an Android app, which explains difficult grammar concepts via animation.
The book launch was followed by a particularly interactive workshop for the teachers, where common teaching difficulties were addressed.
Tips were also given as to how to make the teaching of grammar interesting and entertaining by incorporating art and music in a typical classroom, such as Picture Dictation and how such techniques can be adapted for a variety of grammar topics.
Participating schools included St.Xavier’s Collegiate School, Loreto Day School, National English School, Adamas World School and quite a few others. All in all, it proved to be an enthralling and informative session.
