The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Sunday assured people that enough cash is available in banks and people should not come to ATMs and banks repeatedly to hoard money.
“The Reserve Bank assures members of the public that enough cash in small denominations is also available at the Reserve Bank and banks,” the RBI said in a statement.
“The Reserve Bank urges that public need not be anxious; need not come over to banks repeatedly to draw and hoard; cash is available when they need it” the RBI added.
Meanwhile, people across the country waited in long queues on Sunday in front of banks and ATMs to exchange or deposit Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 currency notes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced demonetisation of two higher value currency notes.
