Markets close down for 5th-straight session

Domestic equity markets closed with declines for fifth-straight session on Friday amid mixed global cues and demonetisation worries. 
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 77 points down at 26,150 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended six points lower at 8,074.
However, broader markets ended in the opposite direction, BSE Smallcap and Midcaps indices jumped 0.3 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Oil & Gas index closed with the biggest gain, up 1.5 per cent, while Consumer Durables index closed with the biggest decline, down 1.3 per cent. 
On Thursday, the Sensex had closed 71 points down at 26,228 and the Nifty had closed 31 points lower at 8,080. 
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: NTPC (up 4.6 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 2.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (up 2.3 per cent), Hero Motocorp (up 2.2 per cent) and M&M (up 1.6 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Tata Steel (down 2 per cent), ITC (down 1.9 per cent), Gail (down 1.8 per cent), HDFC Bank (down 1.5 per cent) and Asian Paints (down 1.2 per cent).
Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading below the 68 mark, down 34 paisa, at 68.16 against the US Dollar.
