Sensex closes 115 pts down; Nifty holds 8,100 mark

Tracking selling pressure in the European and Asian equity markets, domestic bourses closed Monday’s trading session in the negative zone. 
The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended 115 points down at 26,375 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 35 points lower at 8,104.
In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slipped around 0.5 per cent each. 
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Oil & Gas index closed with the biggest gain, up 1 per cent, while Telecom index ended with the biggest decline, down 1.4 per cent. 
On Friday, the Sensex had closed 30 points down at 26,490 and the Nifty had ended 14 points lower at 8,139.
Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Gail (up 2.2 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 0.5 per cent), Cipla (up 0.4 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 0.4 per cent) and Lupin (up 0.3 per cent).
Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Asian Paints (down 2.4 per cent), Sun Pharma (down 2.3 per cent), HDFC (down 1.6 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1.6 per cent) and Adani Ports (down 1.5 per cent).
However, the Rupee was trading two paise down at 67.78 against the US Dollar.
