Sensex gains 95 pts in morning trade, Nifty trades above 8,750

Rebounding from Monday&’s declines, domestic equity markets started Tuesday&’s trading session on a marginally higher note.

At 9.40 am, the Sensex at the Bombay Stocks Exchange (BSE) was trading 95 points higher at 28,389 while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was trading 31 points up at 8,754.

In the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices jumped around 0.6 per cent each.

On Monday, the Sensex had closed 374 points lower at 28,294 and the Nifty had closed 109 points down at 8,723.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty index registered the biggest gain, up 0.7 per cent, while Telecom index became the top loser, down 0.5 per cent. 

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Power Grid (up 1.1 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1 per cent), Tata Motors (up 1 per cent), Infosys (up 0.9 per cent) and TCS (up 0.8 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: ICICI Bank (down 1.3 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1 per cent), Gail (down 0.7 per cent), HDFC (down 0.4 per cent) and L&T (down 0.4 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading 11 paise higher at 66.49 against the US Dollar.
