Sensex trades 45 pts up; SBI, HDFC lead gainers

Indian equity markets started Wednesday’s trading session on a marginally higher note with Realty and Metal indices leading the gains.

At 9:45 am, the Sensex at the BSE was trading 45 points higher at 26,353 and the Nifty at the NSE was trading 13 points up at 8,095.

In the broader markets, BSE Midcap index rose 0.2 per cent while Smallcap index jumped 0.3 per cent.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Metal index registered the biggest gain with a jump of 0.9 per cent while Oil & Gas index became the top loser with a dip of 0.4 per cent.

On Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 67 points down at 26,308 and the Nifty had ended 22 points lower at 8,082.

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: SBI (up 1.3 per cent), HDFC (up 1.1 per cent), Tata Steel (up 0.9 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 0.8 per cent) and Axis Bank (up 0.7 per cent).

Top losers in the Sensex-30 pack: Gail (down 1 per cent), TCS (down 0.7 per cent), Hero Motocorp (down 0.7 per cent), ITC (down 0.5 per cent) and Dr Reddy’s Labs (down 0.3 per cent).

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading nine paise down at 67.94 against the US Dollar.
