Cong minister puts his own government in the dock

Even as the Congress ministers in Himachal are battling to rebut the allegations levelled against them in BJP’s charge sheet, Transport, Food and Civil Supplies Minister G S Bali on Tuesday put his own government in the dock over inaction over the Congress chargesheet submitted against the then BJP government in 2012.

Minister from Kangra district, Bali, who was seemingly irritated for not having been accommodated on the stage with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi during a rally in Dharamshala on December 24, said though it was the prerogative of the government to order probe, the Congress charge sheet then was backed by concrete evidence.

Bali told media persons that several charges of serious corruption during the then BJP government were included in Congress party’s chargesheet in 2012.

Bali, who was also the member of Congress’ chargesheet Committee, said, “We had not made any false allegations against any opposition leader just for the sake of it and all the alleged scams included were backed by strong evidence.”

He said he had written letter to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for initiating action on the basis of chargesheet against BJP leaders many a times. There were around 135 allegations, but they were not inquired into,”he said. He said some charges were however referred to vigilance bureau for probe, they were still pending.

When asked about a Congress leader who was with BJP at that time and was named in the party’s chargesheet, Bali said all the charges against him were based on facts. “I stand by the accusation even today,” he said.

Seemingly unhappy over his own government’s inaction, Bali remarked, ‘I would not be part of any chargesheet committee in the future’.

He lashed at BJP leaders’ for maligning his image by levelling false allegations against him and departments under him and challenged them to submit the chargesheet to Lokayukta or file case in High Court. “Instead of raising hue and cry over such frivolous allegations, BJP leaders should have approached competent authority for proper probe.

Responding to query on allegations against departments under him, Bali said, all rules and regulations were followed in the cases in which BJP had alleged wrongdoings.

He, however, maintained that he would not file defamation case against BJP leaders and added he would leave it on the general public of the state to decide on such frivolous allegations.
