Delhi Congress leaders and workers on Wednesday took out a protest
march against demonetisation of high-value currency, demanding that Prime
Minister Narendra Modi rollback the move in view of hardships faced by people.
The march led by Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken was
taken out from AICC headquarters on Akbar Road to the Prime Minister’s
residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. The marchers were, however, stopped by police
midway.
“The whole county has come to a standstill as the Modi
government has made people stand in queues outside banks to withdraw their
money, thus bringing every productive activity in the country to a total halt,
leaving labourers, workers, farmers, businessmen and traders idle and
desperate,” Maken said in his address to the marchers.

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had nationalised banks
in which the rich people’s money was distributed among the poor people, but now
the reverse is happening, he said adding that people are now standing in long
queues outside banks to take out their hard-earned money without any respite.
AICC in charge of Delhi P C Chacko too slammed the Modi
government and added that Congress will not rest till the problems faced by
people due to demonetisation are solved by the dispensation.
AICC functionaries Randeep Singh Surjewala and Nasib Singh
along with leaders of Delhi unit of the party also addressed the marchers.
