Congress protests against ‘pathetic’ conditions

The 14 district Congress Committees on Sunday held demonstrations against the AAP and the BJP governments to protest against the ‘pathetic’ conditions in the capital.

Thousands of Congress workers, holding banners and placards, and distributing pamphlets protested against the AAP and BJP governments across the city.

Addressing the demonstrators at various districts such as Adarsh Nagar, Karol Bagh and New Delhi, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said when the Congress was in power in Delhi for 15 years out of which BJP had been ruling the MCD for 10 years, the Congress never troubled and allowed the MCD to suffer fund crunch.

"AAP government had promised to regularise the ad-hoc employees, but did not fulfill its promises. The pension of the retired DTC employees was stopped and the pensions of widows and the old people had not been paid for the past many months. It was the fourth time in the last one year that the MCD sanitation workers and other category of employees had struck work due to non-payment of their salaries," said Maken.

He said the BJP, which was taking pride in its "Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan", has now turned Delhi into a huge garbage dump under the party’s rule at the Centre and the MCDs.

"AAP government was obsessed only with its self-publicity. While the budget for Kejriwal’s self publicity has gone up by 2,400 per cent, the devolution of funds to the MCDs has come down by 21.45 per cent and as a result, Delhi was suffering. It was indeed very sad and shameful that Kejriwal has money to splurge on its MLAs and Rs 526 crore have been earmarked for its self publicity, but he has no money to disburse the pensions," stated Maken.
