Shoojit Sircar on ‘Pink’: All women must stand by each other

Thunderous claps and wondrous words have given the makers of Pink a pat on their back for its daring subject and thought-provoking narrative.

While filming it, Shoojit Sircar had given special instructions to the three actresses in the film to connect and bond with each other so that it looks real on the big screen.

The producer revealed the strong reason behind it at a press meet held in the capital on Friday.

“There was a thought behind it,” he said, and his revelation drew a big round of applause.

“If a woman stands by any other woman, nobody can stop them. It&’s the truth and that&’s why all women should back each other,” he said.

“We were told you three are one – a single entity,” Taapsee Pannu, who plays the role of Minal Arora, divulged, and added, “We used to eat food together, hang out together in Delhi and we bonded really well. Actresses can indeed be friends!”

Kirti Kulhari, who is seen as Falak Ali in the film, said, “Even if we hate each other, we have to be good onscreen while shooting for a film. But, Pink is a film that has brought us together. After all the workshops, Shoojit just said one thing to us: ‘If people cannot see your bonding and friendship, this film will not work."

The film traces the story of three girls, Minal, Falak and Andrea, and raises questions on how a woman is perceived in the society.

Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and written by Ritesh Shah, the film hit theatres on Friday.
