Excellence in diversity

Manav Rachna International University was conferred with
five Star rating for Teaching, Facilities, Social Responsibility and
Inclusiveness by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rating System on 9 November. QS has
also rated MRIU as a Three Stars Institution for Overall Performance in
addition to a four Star Rating for Employability and a One Star rating for
Internationalisation. Mr Ashwin Fernandez, Regional Director – Middle East,
Africa and India QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Singapore visited the campus and
made the announcement. 

Through a rigorous and independent data collection and
analysis of performance metrics as set out in the QS Stars methodology, it
rated MRIU as a Three Stars Institution for Overall Performance. The system
evaluates universities across a wide range of important performance indicators
as set against pre-established international standards. QS star throws the
spotlight on both the excellence and the diversity of the rated institution.

New Zealand education providers who participated in Prime
Minister’s John Key’s delegation to India late last month, announced a host of
significant initiatives and partnerships in Mumbai on 10 November 2016.

The delegation included representatives from the University
of Waikato, University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, Media Design
School, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Wellington Institute of Technology and
Whitireia Community Polytechnic as well as Wellington Film Company Park Road
Post Production.  These high quality
provisions gave important and specialist education opportunities for students.

The institute welcomed the education opportunities presented
for both New Zealand and India.The key delegate announcements included a
University of Otago agreement with the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute
regarding collaboration in finance and related programmes. 

Ara Institute of Canterbury and Kumaraguru College of
Technology agreeing to bring more than 10 KCT students to Ara’s Christchurch
campus for an Engineering Systems Analysis programme.  Wellington Institute of Technology and Media
Design School and Massey University will grant internships to the ‘My New
Zealand Future’ animation showcase winners.

A strategic education partnership agreement between
Universities New Zealand and the Maharashtra State Government was also made to
strengthen relationships with India.

Aspiring fashion
models

Banglar Swapna Sundari – a beauty contest for aspiring
fashion models was held at The Spring Club, Kolkata on 22 October with 21
contestants who made it to the finals. The beauty contest was blended with well
choreographed dance sequences and songs. It was witnessed by judges who
included Payel Sarkar, Nusrat Jahan, and former Mrs World Richa Sharma. A total
of 50 contestants were selected after auditions in Siliguri, Durgapur and
Kolkata. After the elimination round there were 21 finalists out of which three
were crowned.

Syllabus for job
seekers

Books based on updated syllabus as per latest Government
notification for job seekers were introduced at the recent Wiley – Exam
Goalpost Dealers Meet (Eastern India) held recently at the Kenilworth Hotel,
Kolkata. The event provided an opportunity for distributors to learn more about
Wiley’s Exam Goalpost Test prep series for key government jobs preparation.
Wiley India is the Indian subsidiary of John Wiley and Sons – a UK based global
provider of knowledge and knowledge enabled solutions in research, professional
practice and education.

For fuel efficiency

Shell Eco-marathon 2017 (SEM), which is being held as part
of the Make the Future Festival in Singapore between 16-19 March 2017, invites
student teams across the world to design, build, test and drive energy
efficient vehicles that can cover longest distance with the least amount of
fuel.

Fuel efficiency can contribute significantly towards
ensuring a low-carbon future and that is what the bright young engineering
students participating in the challenge aims to achieve with sustainable
mobility at the core of these innovations.

Universities which have been selected to represent India at
the event include Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani; BML
Munjal University, Gurgaon; Delhi Technological University, Delhi; Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT)- Banaras Hindu University, Banaras; Indira Gandhi
Delhi Technical University For Women, Delhi; Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi; K.J.
Somaiya College Of Engineering, Mumbai; Mukesh Patel School of Technology
Management and Engineering, Mumbai; Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University,

Institute of Technology (VIT) University, Vellore.

The third and final phase of this competition will run till
February 14, 2017, where student teams will share information on the logistics
of their prototype in addition to details of travel and accommodation.

Fun with kids

Streets of India – a festival which focuses on India’s
social and cultural environment and brings together pan-Indian flavours, style
and culture on one platter celebrated Children’s day, with the underprivileged
kids at Santusti, Swabhumi, Kolkata on 13 November.

The day began with the workshop on making organic bath salts
exclusively made of natural, botanical and renewable ingredients by Geetika and
Ruchi of Pink Prana. Followed by was the workshop on baking exotic deserts
-from cakes, to cookies and sweet treats.

The programme aimed to commemorate the healthy growth and
happiness of children. It also bought interest and keenness among the kids as
they learnt and explored new things.
