New Year delights

Well, I don’t really want to go out to party to usher in the New Year. I’m rather happy staying at home and spending some quality time with my family. I need to introspect about the last year, to think about the fact that yet another year has been lost in the past one year and really look at what I’ve done throughout the year. Of course money is important but I’m looking at something more positive and more constructive, besides my fashion career. Along with it comes my resolution to spend more time with my parents and my kids. I’m getting busier but my parents are getting old too. So this is my New Year resolution.

I have a packed schedule on the 31. I have quite a few concert shows. Music is what is life for me. So I’ll be ushering in the new year through music. It is at these concerts where I’ll probably be meeting some of my friends and have a round of adda and merry-making. Once my shows are done, I’ll be spending my time possibly through discussions with my family on how my shows went. To answer the second part of your question, my new year resolution is to sing better and work on improving my performance. I’d want to go back to the songs I haven’t practiced for a long time.

Frankly speaking, almost all such days are busy because we have shows and programs. This year, for a change, mainly due to demonitisation, there are a very few shows being arranged as a result of which I’ll be home for the most part of the day. This is going to happen after a really, really long time. So I’m going to make use of the fact and spend quality time at home with my family. Also, I know myself pretty well. So I’m not going to talk about fancy resolutions since I haven’t kept any of them in the past year. So I won’t indulge in it anymore.

I’m leaving for London. So I’ll be spending New Year’s Eve there. I would possibly be visiting the popular places in London and having a little time by ourselves. I do usually have very stringent resolutions. I don’t like saying that this is something I will do and this is something I won’t. I would rather wish to behave properly with everyone, be humble and be nice to people.

Dona Ganguly, Dancer

I’ll be celebrating the 31 with my family at home. I’ll usher in the new year with the people who matter most to me: my family. My new year resolution would possibly get rid of all sorts of toxicities in my relationships with people. I want to overcome all the negativity that is a part of life and associate with those who only spread positivity because that’s something so essential in life.

Sreemoyee Piu Kundu, Writer

I really want to spend my new year in Goa this time. Also I’d like to look back on the work that I’ve done in the last year: Shahaj Pather Goppo, Chorabali and The Sixth Year. I’ve won so many awards for them at so many film festivals but I’d like to review them myself now. Also, my new year resolution is to be more disciplined in this coming year. This is one thing I really look forward to. Also, I want to spread world peace in every possible way. It might be a very difficult task to do in a year but I want to contribute in every possible way.

Joy Supratim, cinematographer

Usually, I spend the 31st evening in a very quiet way. We usually have a good dinner at my favourite restaurant. This year, though, we’re planning a terrace party at home with close friends and family. I hope Babi (son) can join us too because he is such an important part of my life, be it for Durga Puja or Christmas or any other festival. So I’m really looking forward to good food and loads of adda both of which are really important to me. In 2017, I sincerely look forward to start something which is called theatre therapy. It’s something that’s really popular abroad and I want to make this a huge success. I’ll also be starting my year with a show of Raktokorobi which we’re doing in a different way this time. One of my resolutions would definitely be to keep enacting the role of ‘Nandini’ till my last breath.
