Broadband internet services restored in Kashmir

Internet services on landline broadband connections were restored on Saturday evening after six days, officials said.

Authorities had suspended the internet services on landline connections on September 12, a day before the Eid festival, fearing large scale violence and spread of rumours by anti-social elements.

Mediapersons on Saturday staged a protest in Srinagar against the suspension of internet services on landline connections as no local journalist working for national, international newspapers/wire services or for local newspapers could file their copies for the last six days.

However, internet services on mobile phones continue to remain suspended in the valley for the last 71 days.

Calling facilities on prepaid and postpaid mobile phones except on postpaid phones provided by the BSNL also remain suspended in the valley.
